This is how it all started

It’s 2021. Daisy and Patrick walk the empty streets of Utrecht in lockdown. After nearly 3 years abroad, they are rediscovering their hometown. While traveling, they booked many local tours to get to know new cities. If at all possible combined with good vegan food. Once home, they dream of all the plant-based delicacies and wonder: can we get that in Utrecht too?

Vegan Pies

In a deserted Utrecht, they walk trough a street called Achter de Dom and pass Kluts. They step inside and see to their great surprise that ALL cakes and cookies are vegan. Say what! In conversation with founders Sanne and Kiki, hear their inspiring story, about the change from a regular café to 100% plant-based. The couple returns home inspired and certain: more people need to know about this.

Local tour

The idea for a local tour in their home town, with lots of delicious vegan food, was born. They join hands with ambitious and positive entrepreneurs to build the most fun food tour in the Netherlands. From a focacceria to an archetypal Dutch snack bar, all with a 100% vega(n) menu. The very first Vegan Food Tour will walk through downtown Utrecht on July 31, 2021.

The first team outing

Soon after, travel company Better Places books the very first team outing. Fourteen pioneers discover the vegetable cuisines of Utrecht. Everyone is licking their fingers at a successful day. Then thousands of people followed in their footsteps and experienced that good food and veganism go hand in hand.

Winner vegan awards

In 2023, Vegan Food Tour Netherlands wins the Vegan Award for best vegan company. The following year, they made their dream come true and launched the first Vegan Food Tour in Amsterdam, followed by Rotterdam.
